So far, we have enough imagine education as "what happens in school," four or five hours each day, for twelve to fifteen years of our lives. Globalization and the knowledge society that has emerged for the development of information technology and communication have created a new paradigm that will break this belief in its spatial and temporal dimension.
The walls of the school and may not be the physical limit of the learning experiences. The square, street, television, internet, stadium, are all open learning spaces available. Many of these spaces are educational spontaneously, others need to be empowered more to meet this goal.
These new spaces for educational experience offered new codes, new languages and new strategies, often more attractive to the younger generation. We must harness this potential for the development of better learning, more meaningful and better connected with the requirements of the knowledge society.
But it also extends the time for learning. It makes no sense to imagine that learning occurs in only half a day to school formally dedicated. We learn all day, every day, all year. Every minute we have an opportunity to learn from what we see, what we hear, what we share, what we read, what we dream.
And that opportunity to learn with us throughout life. No end to receive the final certificate of school education or higher. The constant renewal of knowledge, makes us perpetual learners, bound forever to the flexibility, openness, to never give closed the acquisition of skills and mastery of new content. Knowledge is not a closed box, but a steady flow. When knowledge is not reached, but lived in it. The speed and volume that is created and distributed knowledge, becomes less and less important content that we have learned, and more importantly the skills we have developed to manage the flow of human and productive manner.
It seems to me that there has been another interesting moment for education in decades. Not a better time to be a teacher, to reinvent the educational work, and recognize that creating a new educational model requires a lot of courage and creativity, but above all, conviction. The fundamental belief that every child deserves a real chance to become a citizen of the century, and that means, you know always learning, anywhere and anytime. The technologies that have enabled the emergence of the knowledge society are indispensable tools for education itself get that paradigm shift enabling it to offer richer educational experiences, deep and meaningful.
Extended Learning Experiences
The use of mobile devices in education has been growing tremendously, especially with the development of smartphones and tablets. The main argument was precisely that of ubiquity, the ability to learn anywhere, anytime, by accessing platforms specifically designed for mobile access.
